The Steps of the Redeemed
Psalm 37:23-24
This psalm, ascribed to David, illustrates the compassionate providence and unwavering constancy of God towards the virtuous. The expression “ordered by the Lord” is a Hebrew idiom signifying “established, directed, or secured by divine decree.” This indicates that every action of the believer his periods of advancement and stagnation, of victory and trial is governed by the authority of God.
In the Messianic setting, this principle achieves its greatest realization in Christ Jesus, the "Good Man," whose every action was impeccably matched with the Father's purpose. The incarnate Messiah adhered to the structured path of obedience, even into death, illustrating that divine order does not shield one from suffering it sanctifies it. His path was predetermined through Gethsemane and Golgotha to ensure that ours may be directed towards grace and glory.
For the redeemed, our actions are not arbitrary; they are intentional. Despite encountering doubt, sin, or suffering, "we shall not be completely forsaken." The hand that supports us displays the signs of salvation. Christ Himself sustains His own, perpetually interceding before the Father. The term "upholdeth" signifies continuous action He does not merely elevate us once; He perpetually sustains us.
This divine arrangement does not diminish human accountability; instead, it invites us to a profound confidence. By walking in the Spirit, our footing becomes stable and our path evident. Our failures serve as testimonies of mercy, instructing us to depend on the One who is infallible. The virtuous find joy in God's path as they realize that His instruction, however occasionally enigmatic, invariably results in restoration and recompense.
The Messianic promise indicates that the Lord not only guides our path but also accompanies us on it. The presence of Christ guarantees that each step, even the hesitant ones, brings us nearer to His likeness.
* Divine Order: Each step of the virtuous is meticulously orchestrated by God.
* Messianic Fulfillment: Jesus epitomized the impeccably structured existence.
* Redemptive Assurance: Even in our failures, we are sustained by Christ’s hand.
* Ongoing Guidance: Divine direction is simultaneously safeguarding and advancing.
* Joy in the Journey: Happiness is discovered not in control, but in faith.
The journey of the redeemed is fraught with obstacles, yet it is consistently accompanied by assistance. In Christ, our paths are directed, our failures redeemed, and our journey sustained by the steadfast hand of the Lord who accompanies us and supports us with eternal mercy.
